Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic range earned her popular acclaim across many genres ranging from period drama to thrillers and action. Johansson is the daughter of a film director and an architect. Her family was based in New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. By the time she was seven, her interest in acting had grown. Her first audition was for commercials. Her interest in acting grew quickly and she enrolled soon after at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Johansson made her debut a film actress in North (1994) aged nine. She was just eight when she appeared with Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson was later seen on screen in Just Cause (1995) but her first breakthrough came with Manny & Lo (1996) which was a film about orphaned sisters who run away. For The Horse Whisperer, Johansson played a teenage victim of an incredibly tragic accident. The role she played in Ghost World brought her more recognition as the troubled teenager Rebecca.
